What are toner reactive foils?
Toner reactive foils are metallic, holographic or matte foils that bond to the toner in laser-printed designs when heat and pressure are applied, usually with a laminator or a Minc machine. Print your design, lay the foil shiny-side up over it, run it through the machine, peel back the foil, and your printed areas become beautifully foiled.
Will these foils work with an inkjet printer?
No, and this is the most important thing to know before you start. Toner reactive foil bonds to toner, which only laser printers use. Inkjet ink won't work. If you're unsure which type your printer is, check whether it takes toner cartridges (laser) or ink cartridges (inkjet).
What machine do I need?
A standard hot laminator or a Heidi Swapp Minc. You don't need expensive specialist equipment. Many of our customers foil beautifully with an ordinary home laminator. Machine settings, temperatures and technique are covered in detail in The Toner Foiling Guide.
What card stock works best?
Smooth, uncoated card gives the cleanest transfer. Textured or heavily coated card causes patchy results. For dark, dramatic designs, our premium smooth black card stock is chosen specifically for foiling and makes metallic and holographic foils really glow.
My foil transferred patchy or dull. What went wrong?
Patchy transfer is almost always one of: not enough heat, not enough pressure, unsuitable card stock, or low toner density in the print. Our guide includes a full troubleshooting section covering every common foiling problem and how to fix it.
Do you offer discounts for buying multiple foils?

How much is UK delivery, and how long does it take?
UK delivery is free on orders over £20; standard delivery is £3.99. We aim to dispatch within 2 working days (orders aren't sent on weekends or bank holidays), and delivery typically takes 4 to 5 working days via Royal Mail or DPD. Full details in our shipping policy.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes: alongside the UK, we currently ship to the United States and Canada. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout. If you'd like to order from another country, email us at hello@thefoiledit.co.uk and we'll see what we can do.
What is your returns policy?
We offer a 14-day return policy. Items must be unused and in their original packaging. Email hello@thefoiledit.co.uk to start a return, and once approved you'll be refunded to your original payment method within 10 business days.
